The Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) focuses on use-driven AI research, training an AI-ready workforce, and building a platform to accelerate innovation to support the local economy.
The center serves as a hub where AI researchers, domain experts from diverse disciplines, industry specialists, and community stakeholders come together to address real-world challenges.
CAAI drives economic growth by fostering an ecosystem for innovation. It brings together computational infrastructure, AI expertise, diverse domain knowledge, industry and government partnerships, and workforce development programs to stimulate the emergence of new AI-powered businesses and startups.
UL Lafayette plans to create a secure AI sandbox at the LITE Center to enable students, faculty, and local industry partners to experiment with open large language models, such as Meta’s Llama 3, locally. These local models mitigate security and privacy risks by ensuring that the data entered is not used to train public models.

AI4HealthOutcomes Webinar Series
Join us on the third friday of the month for the AI4HealthOutcomes Webinar Series. This forum brings together AI researchers, data scientists, and public health professionals to explore AI applications in healthcare delivery and population health – with emphasis on implementation strategies, model validation, and data integration challenges. The webinar is on the third Friday of the month at 2:30 pm CT.
The goal of the series is to foster collaboration, spark innovation, and gather feedback from an interdisciplinary community of researchers and practitioners.
The seminar series is open to researchers, faculty, industry, doctors, healthcare professionals, and students!
